The home portion of the April 2012 Kane County Cougars season is in the books. Hard to believe! If you came out for our recent six-game homestand…thank you. It’s been fun to see so many fans here enjoying themselves and as the April/May games usually reveal, Ozzie’s Reading Club brings many first-time fans to the ballpark in the spring. Congratulations to all of our young fans who have hit a home run by achieving their reading goals.
The baseball has been good of late. Offensively, the Cougars are batting .281 as a team. That’s solid. It’s very rare to see any team in the Midwest League post an average like that in the first month of the season – typically a cool, hitter-unfriendly month of April in the Midwest. Who’s leading the way? Jorge Bonifacio (.365), Lane Adams (.392) and Justin Trapp (.339) are at the top of the list. Through four starts, we’re seeing a lot of good things from right-hander Edwin Carl, who seems to be making a smooth conversion from reliever to starter. Carl has a 1.77 ERA so far.
The team hit the road early this morning for a road trip that kicks off in Lansing, MI tonight. Cougars radio broadcaster Wayne Randazzo will be your eyes and ears as the team finishes out the April portion of the schedule. The Cougars return to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, May 2 to welcome the Peoria Chiefs, Class-A farm team for the Chicago Cubs.
Here’s several of our favorite photos taken from the last week. A shout goes out to Cougars team photographer Donnell Collins, who takes so many great images year in and year out at the ballpark.
Thanks, as always, for reading! We’ll see you soon.
