Tonight at Modern Woodmen Park, the Cougars battle the Quad Cities River Bandits in the finale of their season-opening three-game series. Right-hander Kellen Moen starts for the Cougars against fellow righty Todd McInnis.
Last night didn’t go so well for the Green and Black. An 8-0 loss to the River Bandits was made possible by five errors. Three of the defensive lapses came in the fourth inning which assisted the River Bandits to scoring six runs. The Cougars did bang out nine hits in the contest including four two-baggers but were unable to plate a run.
Edwin Carl was solid in his first professional start, working 3.1 innings. He’s my guest on tonight’s Cougars on Deck pregame show, which can be heard at 6:45 p.m. on AM 1280 WBIG and http://www.kccougars.com.
Moen makes his Cougars debut tonight. He was drafted by the Royals with their seventh-round pick in last year’s draft out of the University of Oregon. He made 15 appearances (13 starts) at Idaho Falls in 2011. Interesting note on Moen is that he spent the spring semesters of his high school career in California while the fall semesters were spent in his native Juneau, Alaska.
Here’s tonight’s starting lineup from skipper Brian Buchanan:
1. Justin Trapp 2B
2. Danny Mateo 3B
3. Michael Antonio DH
4. Jorge Bonifacio RF
5. Lane Adams CF
6. Orlando Calixte SS
