Hey, Cougars fans! The Cougars are on their way to a 140-0 record after last night’s 11-10 slugfest victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits. Tonight’s game two of their season-opening three-game set from Modern Woodmen Park.
Right-hander Edwin Carl gets the nod for the Cougars in his first professional start. Carl put up video game numbers last year at Idaho Falls. He recorded a 1.32 ERA with a whopping 71 strikeouts in 33 innings. He only walked three hitters the entire season as he was named the MiLB Short Season Reliever of the Year.
Carl will be opposed by southpaw Hector Hernandez, who makes his second career appearance for the River Bandits. He pitched once for them last season against the Peoria Chiefs.
Lane Adams was one of the big heroes last night as he cracked a grand slam and a triple in the Cougars’ nine-run second inning. Quad Cities never came back, but they did make it awfully close. Matt Ridings and Nick Graffeo combined for 3.1 scoreless innings to preserve a one-run lead. Graffeo picked up the save for Andrew Stueve, who got the win in relief of Aaron Brooks.
